Dalsland (sometimes known as "Dalia") is one of the traditional Swedish provinces. Located in the southwest of Sweden, Dalsland borders Bohuslän to the southwest, Norway to the west, Värmland to the north and northeast, lake Vänern to the east, and Västergötland to the east and south. Dalsland offers a scenic landscape with lakes in the east and dense forests in the northwestern uplands. Dalsland is quite rural with a low population density of about 14 inhabitants/km² and a total population of 50,527 inhabitants. Åmål is the only sizeable town. Sparsely inhabited areas are dominated by forests and lakes. In fact, Dalsland is known as "Sweden's lake province".
