Declaration of Arbroath Wallace Tartan Tea Towel

Declaration of Arbroath Wallace Tartan Tea Towel

Declaration of Arbroath Wallace Tartan Tea Towel This tea towel for supporters of Scottish independence features a photograph of a fragment of the Declaration of Arbroath - a declaration of Scottish independence - written in Latin and signed on April 6th, 1320, at Arbroath Abbey, six years after Robert the Bruce defeated the English at Bannockburn in 1314. The most quoted excerpt is: 'For as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.' At the base of the manuscript are wax seals of the signatories. The background is the Clan Wallace tartan. The most famous member of the clan was William Wallace, another great Scottish patriot and freedom fighter. The 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn takes place this year. The referendum on independence for Scotland from the Westminster government also takes place this year, on 18th September 2014, when people living and working in Scotland will vote on the country's future as an independent nation.
