Dennis Miller Bunker (an American Impressionism painter) is seen here painting in a meadow with Sargent's sister Violet. The woman is sitting next to a creek in Calcot, England. This painting was done in the "en plein air" style which means in the open air, meant to describe paintings created outside. About the artist: John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) was the most successful portrait painter of his era. Sargent is usually not thought of as an Impressionism painter, but he sometimes used impressionistic techniques to great effect with his own version of the impressionist style.
