In 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared to St Juan Diego and created the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. A copy of that miraculous image was carried in the Battle of Lepanto forty years later, on 7 September 1571, which was known afterwards as the feast of Our Lady of Victories.
