Doctor - Operation Theatre 1905 Postcard

Colourized Photo from around 1905 Original title: Grave Operation Location: Might be Johns Hopkins Hospital Shhhhh.... It's almost time, hey, pass the popcorn will you, its about to start... This is an operation theatre, a place where both nurses and doctors can kick back and watch the show of the day. This room was designed for learning, and people were allowed to watch the operation. In the past people were allowed to sit practically on the operating floor. This image was taken around 1905. The light above is Victorian in nature, and while the bulbs are large, they aren't that bright. They relied on the window and it being sunny out, in order to operate. I have no idea what they did when the sun hid behind clouds. Surgical gloves were invented in 1890, so they actually did have them then, but as you can see by the anaesthesiologist, they were not always worn, same with face masks, it seems only a few got to wear those. The smocks they wear, simply protects their suits the doctors are wearing. And that is their actual use, its not there to protect the patient, its to prevent blood from getting on their tie. Note how they put people to sleep back then.

Such a huge range of different frogs available, which made my choices very difficult and now the reason I have a whole draw full of cards and postcards! Much better quality than you can buy in the shops and they are exactly on the subject I love and adore too.
