Eating Cherries - Art Nouveau - Jugend Magazine Poster

This rare and wonderful image was the cover art for the August 1896 No. 32 issue of Jugend Magazine, the famous German weekly publication century that launched the German Art Nouveau movement known as "Jugendstil," which means "youth style." This is the same year the magazine was started by journalist George Hirth, one of the most influential thinkers in Munich at the turn of the century. It was widely popular and featured the key artists of the Art Nouveau era. This illustration of a girl with a cherry in her mouth (and surrounded by cherries growing on a very fruitful tree) was created by the Art Nouveau [Jugendstil] painter and designer Otto Eckmann. This image has been professionally restored by us. It has been retouched where faded, and colours have been enhanced. In some cases, we have guessed at the colour of the original image.
