El Greco View of Toledo puzzle. Oil painting on canvas circa 1599. This is one of the only two remaining landscapes of the Spanish artist El Greco. A pioneering work, View of Toledo represents one of the first non-peopled cityscapes painted in Spain. The enchanting sky with its shifting clouds and dark blues is particularly famous. The swaying contrast between the blue, green and grey of the sky, city, trees and water provides a fluid motion to the painting reminiscent of Van Gogh’s Starry Night. A great gift for fans of El Greco, late Spanish renaissance art, mannerism, and famous sky paintings.
