The Omodaka crest is also called the 'Daki-Omodaka.' The name 'Omodaka' (face-high) is derived from the fact that the leaves look like human faces and the leaf veins are raised high on the surface of the leaves, which is also a play on words with 'omomochi tatsu' (to be respectable). It is also said that the name 'Omodaka' is written with the kanji characters for 'swamp' and 'discharge' because it is a grass that grows in 'swamps that discharge water.' The design has been widely used since the Nara period, and it is also frequently used by samurai families because the leaves resemble arrowheads, making it a symbol of victory (according to 'Kamon no Jiten' by Takasawa et al.).
