These paper plates feature an almost empty Ponte Sant’Angelo at dawn, leading directly across the Tiber towards Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome. Emperor Hadrian had the bridge built in AD 136 as Pons Aelius to connect the city with the entrance to his imperial mausoleum. In 1668 Pope Clement IX added ten angels bearing symbols of Christ’s Passion; Bernini designed the figures and members of his workshop carved them.
