Ernst Ludwig Kirchner View of Basel and the Rhine T-Shirt. Ernst Ludwig Kirchner was a German painter who painted in an abstract and expressionist style. He was a founder member of the "Die Brucke" (the bridge) art group which has been hailed as the precursor to the European expressionist art movement. The group aimed to eschew the prevalent traditional academic style and find a new mode of artistic expression, which would form a bridge (hence the name) between the past and the present. His art was denounced as degenerate by the Nazis although much of his work survived. This colourful cityscape painting of Basel and the Rhine would make an excellent gift for an art lover.
