Fairy Butterfly Fine Childrens Designs Card

This is a beautiful painting by Frank Schoonover, an American Illustrator during the "Golden Age of Illustration". This painting was created in 1914 specifically for Han's Andersen's Fairy Tales and Wonder Stories" as a cover plate facing the book's title page. These antique books were magnificently designed with a rich variety of endpapers, frontispieces, head and tailpieces, and decorated initials. Illustrations were selected for their visual appeal and to convey the range of artistic styles and media inherent in antique children's books.
