Daruma was the founder of Chan (Zen) Buddhism, and sat meditating in a cave for nine years, which is where he got the reputation for having no arms and legs! Daruma taught martial arts to the monks at the famous Chinese Shaolin Temple, however, so we know he had very strong arms and legs!
