Colourized photo from 1939, June Original title: Abandoned tenant farmhouse in field of cotton Photographer: Russell, Lee Location: Wagoner County, OK During the great depression, people had very little. People would have to leave their land and find some place else to live. That left a lot of abandoned homes, fields and farms. Some people would be able to lease their land to others, and some got to live there by working the fields. Others may have just taken it over. Hard to know which is the case here. But he seems happy on his tractor tilling the fields for cotton. The barn is still sort of in use, it provides a little shade on the inside for a warm person to cool off.
