Festina Lente - "Slowly But Surely" Coffee Mug

Festina Lente is a latin motto translated from the Greek: speûde bradéōs, literally translated as "hasten slowly", or "make haste slowly". The dolphin and anchor is the symbol for this phrase - the speed of a dolphin and the solidity of an anchor. A Latin poem or "subscriptio" below each symbol (translated to English) completes the "literary emblem". Tutius ut possit figi maris anchora fundo / Adiuvat humanam piscis amicus opem. / Translated as: "If safely, thou desire to go / Be nor too swift, nor over slow." This is a present for a submarine school graduate who's assigned to a "boomer" at sea. Peace. ☮️

Sturdy, large-size coffee mug was a present for my nephew who graduated from the academy and received his assignment to a submarine. He tested the cup out right away and was impressed with how solid and substantial it feels. Everyone in the family enjoyed the symbolism of the anchor and dolphin "Festina Lente", and the poem wishing him godspeed on his journey at sea. The theme fits perfectly in the house of a submariner. His wife also got him a cup from Zazzle, personalized with the name of his boat. Printing quality is always outstanding - the anchor stands out against the blue background pattern. Even the very small poem below the anchors is clear and legible.
