Five Gourd Crest with Manji Symbol

The family crest of Yoshida Shoin (Drawn on 2013/5/6). Shoin tried to stow away on Perry's second expedition to Shimoda and got caught. When an American officer asked for his name, he gave a false name, 'Urina Manji', which is a play on words with the colloquial name of this crest design, 'Manji inside a Gourd'. (Reference: '100 Stories of Family Crests (Vol. 2)' by Niwa Kaji). There are other theories about his false name, including 'Kanouchi Manji' and 'Kuwanou Manji'.
