This design features the national flag of Sri Lanka (formerly known as Ceylon and officially known as the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka), which is an island country in South Asia. Sri Lanka is located in the Indian Ocean southwest of the Bay of Bengal and southeast of the Arabian Sea. Indeed, Sri Lanka has been called “the pearl of the Indian ocean” because of its shape and location. The legislative capital of Sri Lanka is Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, while the executive and judicial capital is Colombo, which is also the country's largest city and centre of commerce.
