Flanders fields poppy photo and poem card

Own photo of a Flanders poppy, taken somewhere in Flanders. For custom versions for multiple orders (Remembrance, Veteran's Day) on cards or other Zazzle products, please contact us using the contact button above this description. About the poppy: A poppy is one of a group of a flowering plants in the poppy family, many of which are grown in gardens for their colourful flowers. Poppy flowers have 4 to 6 petals. Petals may be almost any colour, and some have markings. Before blooming, the petals are crumpled in the bud, and as blooming finishes, the petals often lie flat before falling away. A whorl of stamens is in the centre of the flower. The poppy of wartime remembrance is Papaver rhoeas, the red-flowered corn poppy. This poppy is a common weed in Europe and is found in many locations, including Flanders, the setting of the famous poem "In Flanders Fields," by the Canadian surgeon and soldier John McCrae. The remembrance poppy (a Papaver rhoeas) has been used since 1920 to commemorate soldiers who have died in war. They were first used in the United States to commemorate soldiers who died in World War I (1914–1918). Today, they are mainly used in current and former Commonwealth states to commemorate their servicemen and women who have been killed since 1914. About the poem : "In Flanders Fields" is one of the most noteable poems written during World War I, created in the form of a French rondeau. It has been called "the most popular poem" produced during that period. Canadian physician and Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae is popularly believed to have written it on 3 May 1915 , after he witnessed the death of his friend, Lieutenant Alexis Helmer, 22 years old, the day before. The poem was first published on 8 December of that year in the London-based magazine Punch. The poppies referred to in the poem grew in profusion in Flanders in the disturbed earth of the battlefields and cemeteries where war casualties were buriedand thus became a symbol of Remembrance Day source Wikipedia.

Very lovely garden flower design on dark green background. The design is inviting! Hard to refrain from using them up the minute they arrive. Rich dark hues on heavyweight cardstock. The flower design is bright and really pops against the dark green background. I love these cards!

I love the detail of the art and the explanation inside of each sorrow. I hoped the pictures would be a little bit bigger. It was very hard to see each one in the beginning, and my eyes had to adjust. But overall awesome, thanks so much for this!! Printing was good. Just make sure to go thru it again. In 3: change the word lost to “at the loss” and then after number 1 Hail Mary, there are two ”y’s” after that delete if you want to delete those to make it cleaner.

The "lonely maple leaf" card has become our family's choice for sympathy -- but could also be used for encouragement. I'm so glad to keep stocked with this. The colors are soft and evocative, and the quality is excellent, on nice thick stock.
