The lightning crest. Lightning refers to a thunderbolt or electricity. The word 'suzuki' (rice) is associated with a tree bearing fruit in clusters, symbolizing a primitive wish for a bountiful harvest. Seeing the earth as a mother, the rice ears needed a husband to bear fruit. The heavenly deity was considered the visiting husband. In other words, the electric light represents the husband visiting the rice ears, making them fruitful. There's a legend that a year with lightning around late August to mid-September is a year of good harvest (according to 'Nihon Kamon Soran' by Toshio Nosaka).
