Framed Portrait of St. Rose of Lima (M 024b) Tile

Framed Portrait of St. Rose of Lima (M 024b) Tile

This image of St. Rose of Lima (1586-1617), the first person born in the Americas to be declared a Roman Catholic saint, represents a further reworking of ‘St. Rose of Lima by Night (M 024)’ and ‘Portrait of St. Rose of Lima Draped with Roses (M 024a)’. Here the image is reduced to just the framed portrait (with or without a simple decorative pattern of dots) focusing all the viewer’s attention on the saint’s visage. + Clad in the cream-coloured Dominican habit befitting her membership in the Third Order, St. Rose wears a crown of thorns in memory of Christ’s passion atop her white veil. She holds an armful of pink roses and a wooden cross. Quite naturally, roses of all varieties have become her attribute. In art, she is depicted crowned with roses, holding roses (as here), or in a setting with potted roses or flowering rose bushes. + St. Rose is the primary patron of Peru and of the indigenous peoples of Latin America, co-patron of the Philippines with St. Pudentiana, patron the Americas in general, and patron of Santa Rosa, California, and its Diocese. Additionally, she is the patron saint of embroiderers, gardeners, and florists. + Feast: August 23 + Image Credit (M 024b): Detail of an antique image of St. Rose of Lima extracted from a late 19th-early 20th-century devotional chromolithograph, originally published by Josef Müller, Art Publisher, Munich, Germany, from the designer’s private collection of religious ephemera. + Prefer a different colour border? The Colour Palette postcard for this image provides suggested coordinating hues. Colour Palette postcards are found in an image's associated COLLECTION and in the Special COLLECTION devoted just to colour palettes.

My fiancé and I were happy when we received the tile. It’s Peru and was worth paying extra for expressing postage. Good quality and it is exactly like we wanted it. We are very pleased.

Just perfect for my needs. I want to use it in my garden as a little memorial to my Nana whose name was Iris :). Printing is just great :)
