Frauenkirche München Poster
The Frauenkirche, also known as the Cathedral of Our Dear Lady, is a magnificent church located in the heart of Munich, Germany. Its history is closely tied to the city's religious and architectural heritage.
Construction of the Frauenkirche began in 1468 under the patronage of Duke Sigismund and continued for several decades, with its consecration taking place in 1494. The church was designed in the Late Gothic style by architect Jörg von Halsbach and is chraacterised by its distinctive twin towers, which reach a height of 99 metres (325 feet). These towers have become a recognisable symbol of Munich and are often referred to as "Die Zwiebeltürme" or "onion domes" due to their unique bulbous shape.
Throughout its history, the Frauenkirche has witnessed significant events, including the Reformation, which saw Munich and its church become predominantly Catholic. During the 17th century, the church underwent renovations and received Baroque additions, including altars and decorative elements. In the 18th century, a massive dome was added to the interior of the church.
One of the most critical events in the Frauenkirche's history occurred during World War II when the church was heavily damaged by Allied bombing raids in 1944. The roof and much of the interior were destroyed, leaving the iconic towers standing as a symbol of resilience amidst the devastation. After the war, extensive restoration efforts took place, and the Frauenkirche was painstakingly rebuilt to its former glory. The reconstructed church was consecrated in 1952.
Today, the Frauenkirche stands as a testament to Munich's rich history and architectural heritage. It continues to serve as an active Catholic parish church and a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the world who come to admire its Gothic and Baroque architecture, its impressive interior, and the panoramic views from its towers. The Frauenkirche remains both a place of worship and a symbol of Munich's enduring spirit and resilience.

I originally ordered this print in a larger size but was not pleased with the clarity of it. When I contacted Zazzle, they responded really quickly and were very helpful. I was able to reorder the print in a smaller size and it was shipped to me within a couple of weeks. The print was packaged well to ensure there was no damage during transit (Eco friendly, too!), and I am really pleased with it.
I am so grateful to the customer service team for the professional way they handled my order. I had this printed on matt finish card and I was really pleased with the quality. The colours were rich and the image sharp.
