Fuel for People — The Design Story So here’s the deal. I manage one of these fine Oregon establishments known as Plaid Pantry. On paper, it’s just snacks, sodas, and coffee at 2 a.m. In reality? It’s a survival arena featuring bottle deposits that should probably come with a hazmat warning label. We’re talking used needles, questionable fluids, and a customer base that shows up already halfway to a WWE promo. All for a couple of quarters in can money. At some point, I just stopped fighting the madness and thought: “You know what? This is basically a zombie apocalypse. Except the zombies yell about deposits and want a cigarette discount.” So I sketched it out, leaned into the chaos, and boom — Fuel for People was born. A perfect tribute to the daily grind: part horror movie, part comedy, part “this is my actual Tuesday night shift.” It’s funny, it’s tragic, and honestly… it’s probably the most accurate depiction of the Oregon bottle deposit program you’ll ever see.
