Funny Chinese Poem - Lion-Eating Poet Poster

Funny Chinese Poem - Lion-Eating Poet Poster

Amusing Chinese poster featuring traditional Chinese characters. The text - read from top to bottom, right to left - is a poem by Yuen Ren Chao called "The Lion-Eating Poet in the Stone Den". The title is displayed in large Chinese symbols across the top (read left to right). When there were rumours of the Chinese language being changed to trash the pictographic characters in favour of the alphabet we use in the West, Yuen Ren Chao wrote this poem to show how foolish that idea would be - every single Chinese character in this poster is pronounced, "Shi". All of them! (I'll leave it for you to go find a reading of this poem on Youtube or elsewhere.) Needless to say, they kept their beautiful old symbols, and you can enjoy them too - and now you know you can even read this poster, because it's just as easy as saying "Shi". [Translation of poem: "The Lion-Eating Poet in the Stone Den ... In a stone den was a poet called Shi, who was a lion addict, and had resolved to eat ten lions. He often went to the market to look for lions. At ten o'clock, ten lions had just arrived at the market. At that time, Shi had just arrived at the market. He saw those ten lions, and using his trusty arrows, caused the ten lions to die. He brought the corpses of the ten lions to the stone den. The stone den was damp. He asked his servants to wipe it. After the stone den was wiped, he tried to eat those ten lions. When he ate, he realised that these ten lions were in fact ten stone lion corpses. Try to explain this matter.]

I originally ordered this print in a larger size but was not pleased with the clarity of it. When I contacted Zazzle, they responded really quickly and were very helpful. I was able to reorder the print in a smaller size and it was shipped to me within a couple of weeks. The print was packaged well to ensure there was no damage during transit (Eco friendly, too!), and I am really pleased with it. I am so grateful to the customer service team for the professional way they handled my order. I had this printed on matt finish card and I was really pleased with the quality. The colours were rich and the image sharp.
