Born on June 1, 1831, in Kentucky, Hood swiftly rose through the ranks in the Confederate Army. He gained prominence for his daring actions and bravery, particularly in the battles of Gaines' Mill, Second Bull Run, and Antietam. However, his tenure as commander of the Army of Tennessee was marked by controversial decisions, notably the unsuccessful Franklin-Nashville Campaign, which resulted in heavy casualties for his forces.
