George Washington's Tree - Black T-Shirt
Silhouette of one of President George Washington's trees overlooking the Potomac River at Mount Vernon. It was originally a photograph taken last winter from the rear piazza of the mansion. According to staff, this magnificent Swamp Chestnut Oak dates from Washington's time (1771). The black-and-white theme is partly a reference to the several hundred slaves who were held there during and several years after his lifetime. (Note: The edges of the image include grey pixels and so will look best on a black T-shirt, though the outline effect on a light T-shirt might be interesting. I also made a "black tree" version intended for a white T.)
