Giant Anteater in The Pantanal Postcard

Giant Anteater in The Pantanal Postcard

The Pantanal, spanning western Brazil and parts of Bolivia and Paraguay, is the world’s largest tropical wetland and one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. Unlike dense rainforests, the Pantanal is a vast mosaic of flooded grasslands, marshes, rivers, and forest patches, making it a spectacular place for wildlife spotting. Seasonal flooding transforms the landscape, attracting thousands of birds, reptiles, and mammals, and creating ideal conditions for both resident and migratory species. Visitors often explore the Pantanal via guided boat tours, jeep safaris, or horseback rides, experiencing close encounters with capybaras, jaguars, caimans, and an enormous variety of birds. Among the Pantanal’s unique mammals is the giant anteater, an iconic and fascinating species. These large, insect-eating mammals use their long snouts and sticky tongues to forage termites and ants from mounds scattered across the wetlands. Despite their size—often up to 7 feet including the tail—giant anteaters are mostly solitary and move deliberately, relying on stealth rather than speed to avoid predators. In the Pantanal, they share their habitat with jaguars, pumas, and ocelots, and spotting one in the wild is considered a highlight for wildlife enthusiasts. Their presence underscores the Pantanal’s incredible ecological richness and the importance of conserving such unique wetland ecosystems.

Such a huge range of different frogs available, which made my choices very difficult and now the reason I have a whole draw full of cards and postcards! Much better quality than you can buy in the shops and they are exactly on the subject I love and adore too.
