Each evening at 7PM New Yorkers stopped to clap, ring a bell, holler or bang a pot in a noisy tribute to the workers on the front lines. New York's dally ovation was inspired by Italians and Londoners who took to their windows in the same raucous manner to recognise the people working to address essential needs.
