The Great Mosque of Córdoba, also known as La Mezquita, is one of the most stunning examples of Islamic architecture in Europe and a symbol of the cultural fusion between Islamic, Christian, and Spanish influences. Located in Córdoba, Spain, this magnificent structure was originally built as a mosque in 785 CE by the Umayyad ruler Abd al-Rahman I when the region was under Muslim rule. Over the centuries, the mosque was expanded by successive caliphs, growing into one of the most grand and sophisticated religious sites of the Islamic world. Its most famous feature is the vast hypostyle hall, filled with over 850 red-and-white horseshoe arches that create a mesmerising sense of depth and rhythm.
