This is a view of Cape Hatteras lighthouse from across the salt marsh. The shoals that are a result of the Labrador Current and Gulf Stream colliding here at the cape are called Diamond Shoals. A more sinister nickname for the shoals is "Graveyard of Ships" because of all the wrecks that occur here. It is also a fertile fishing ground and draws fishermen from all over. The sailors' nightmare is the fisherman's dream.
