Squirrels are amazing acrobats. They manage to thwart any plan I put in place to keep them from the bird feeders. Food on the ground? Nope - the seed is obviously more delicious when eaten from a feeder. Grease the cable the feeders hang from? Nope - they walk hanging upside down or leap 6 foot spans of open space from the tree. They climb over, crawl through, or tightrope-walk any obstacle. I guess the entertainment value is worth the seed.
