Gustav Klimt - University of Vienna Ceiling Paintings (Medicine), Detail Showing Hygieia, Daughter of the God of Medicine (Greek) This oil on canvas from 1907 was part of a series originally commissioned for the University of Vienna in 1894. Medicine was the second painting in the series which depicted the river of life and the continuity of life and death, but because it was deemed inappropriate the university would not display them.
