Gustav Klimt - Poppy Field Tie

Flowering Poppies / Poppy Field (Blühender Mohn), painted in 1907 in oil on canvas by Austrian Symbolist Gustav Klimt. A meadow filled with poppies and daisies stretches toward a high horizon, punctuated by fruit trees whose foliage is built from tightly packed touches of green and violet. Klimt uses diminishing flower heads and changing scale to suggest distance, but at the same time flattens meadow and trees into a continuous Pointillist surface. The painting represents the climax of his experiments with broken color in the Attersee landscapes. When first shown in 1908, the work was quickly sold, evidence of the strong response to Klimt's increasingly celebrated landscapes.
