One of Gustav Klimt's most famous works, The Kiss features prominent use of gold leaf, and was inspired by the ornate style of ancient mosaics.
Klimt (1862-1918) was one of the primary members of the Vienna Secession movement. His work is chraacterised by sensualism, often involving eroticised and amorous figures. His paintings fetch some of he highest prices for art work, some fetching upwards of $100,000,000.
