The Mount Evans Scenic Byway is a 14-mile paved road, in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, which passes by Echo Lake, elevation 10,600 feet. It is the highest paved road in North America, and leads to within a couple of hundred feet of the summit, which is at an elevation of 14,264 feet. There was very little wind that day and the mountains, the forest green of the trees lining the edge of the lake, the blue sky and clouds; all reflected off the glass like surface of the lake, just like a mirror. The stillness of the mountain grandeur of the Colorado Rockies was all around us. It was a picture perfect day, and we packed a picnic basket for lunch and enjoyed the picturesque landscape of the mountains and Echo Lake, before resuming our drive towards the summit.
