HARD ROCK! Carbon atoms. Bundles of energy composed of 6 Protons, 6 Neutrons and 6 electrons. Forged deep in the crucible of the Earth’s crust under extreme heat (2200º Farenheit) and pressure (750 thousand pounds per square inch), carbon atoms strong covalent bonds can form crystal diamonds. Gem quality diamonds are about 99.95% carbon and are the hardest natural substance on earth. We sometimes describe the pressure in life as, 'being under fire', 'having the heat turned up' or the 'pressure is on.' Not all diamonds survive the extreme heat and pressure because of weakness in the crystal structure or an imbalance of the chemical composition. Humans can also crack and melt emotionally under the pressures of life. Like diamonds, they can also survive and thrive.
