Harriet Tubman, Powerful Liberty or Death Quote Poster

This poster has a powerful quote by Harriet Tubman (born Araminta Ross c. 1822 - 1913), an American abolitionist and political activist: I had reasoned this out in my mind; there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty or death; if I could not have one, I would have the other. Harriet was born into slavery, and in 1849, she became free after she had escaped to Philadelphia. She then helped guide her family and other enslaved people to freedom. She worked for the Union Army during the Civil War as a cook, nurse, armed scout and spy. After the war, she was active in the women's suffrage movement until illness overtook her. In 1911, she was admitted to a home for elderly African Americans that she helped establish years earlier. After her death, she became an icon of courage and freedom, and inspired generations of African Americans struggling for equality and civil rights.
