The fields look lush and fertile. It is a bright summer's day. There are some black raven birds painted impressionistically at the edge of the scene. The view that can be seen in this painting comes from a region of the Bernese Highlands (Bernese Oberland), in the central Swiss Alps. The original artwork was painted by Ferdinand Hodler in 1910.
