Hite Postcard
Hite City, Glen Canyon, UT Hite City was founded by the prospector Cass Hite in 1883. The residents were searching for gold. By 1945 the population was around 200. Residents swept the area for uranium after WW2. Hite was also a popular crossing on the Colorado. In 1848 a ferry system was established to carry vehicles across the river. The cost was 5$ per car. The rising waters of Lake Powell covered most of the town site in 1964. Today Hite is a small town and it has a gas station.
