HMS Endymion vs USS President Postcard

HMS Endymion vs USS President Postcard

HMS Endymion Yaws to Rake USS President, by Thomas Buttersworth The naval battle between HMS Endymion and USS President took place on January 15, 1815, during the War of 1812 between the United States and Britain. The encounter occurred off the coast of Long Island, and it was a significant confrontation between the British Royal Navy and the United States. HMS Endymion, a 40-gun fifth-rate frigate, engaged the USS President, a 44-gun frigate, in a fierce and lengthy battle that lasted for several hours. The encounter was part of a series of naval conflicts between the two nations during the War of 1812. Despite the disparity in firepower and the President's attempt to outrun the British ship, the USS President was eventually overpowered by the HMS Endymion. The battle was intense, resulting in heavy casualties on both sides. Despite inflicting substantial damage on the British vessel, the USS President ultimately surrendered to the Endymion due to the severity of the damage it sustained. The USS President was subsequently captured by the British and taken into their service, while the Endymion sustained severe damage in the battle, requiring significant repairs afterward. The battle between HMS Endymion and USS President stands as one of the significant naval engagements of the War of 1812 and highlighted the prowess of both naval forces in a time of conflict between the United States and Britain.

Such a huge range of different frogs available, which made my choices very difficult and now the reason I have a whole draw full of cards and postcards! Much better quality than you can buy in the shops and they are exactly on the subject I love and adore too.
