Holy Angels Catholic Church Tote Bag

Holy Angels Church on Buffalo's West Side is special to me. Two artists I greatly admire went to school there, those artists being the great pianist Leonard Pennario and the wonderful writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. Also, my great-uncle, the Rev. Andrew Kunz, was an Oblate priest and was stationed at Holy Angels for decades. I was born too late to know him but I thought of him a lot as I sketched the church on New Year's Day 2020. Holy Angels was founded over 150 years ago by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (my great-uncle was treasurer of the order), and the Grey Nuns. Unfortunately the church has been slated to close this year. The talk is that the property will be incorporated into D'Youville College next door. Still it is sad news and a lot of us are praying for a miracle. This is such a beautiful and visible church, towering over Porter Avenue, right down the street from Kleinhans Music Hall. It is a treasure.
