The tale that I have heard since I was a child is that the Indians and early settlers used the last full moon before winter to hunt at night in order to help fill the larder before the hard times came. It's easy to imagine early hunters in the pines when setting at a favorite overlook on top of the Route 55, Highland Scenic Highway and watching the moon rise in all it's glory.
