Hunting Antelope by Frederic Remington Business Card

Hunting Antelope by Frederic Remington Business Card

Hunting Antelope by Frederic Remington is one of the fifteen chromolithographs from the 1889-1890 folio Sport of Fishing and Shooting, published by Bradlee Whidden of Boston and edited by A.C. Gould. These prints were based on watercolors created specifically for the publication and illustrated by renowned American artists. Each illustration in the folio was paired with a descriptive text and an account of the depicted sporting scene, reviewed for accuracy by a group of hunters and anglers before printing. This particular print, originally titled Hunting Antelope (Prong-horn), shows two men on a barren mesa, with antelope in the distance. In the foreground, one cowboy is holding a rifle and the reins of his horse while standing next to a second cow pony, which is saddled and hobbled. In the background, the second hunter is kneeling and shooting at the antelope in the distance. This print, created by the famous Western artist Frederic Remington (1861-1909), is one of his first colour prints and was published less than ten years after Remington first ventured to the American West.
