For all of the wind inheritin' and whatnot that issued forth from the Scopes trial, an odd piece of weirdness often gets lost in the shuffle: the evolutionists lost. Yep, that schoolteacher had to take 10 lashes or eat bees or suffer whatever it was they did back in the day when you crossed the good people of Tennessee (actually, he just had to pay a fine). All in the service of a simple idea: things are the way they are because they got that way. Nowadays, this is what those of us in the rough trade call a Solved Problem. A Done Deal. Forks and all.
