Iao Valley, Maui Hawaii Postcard

My husband and I were in Maui in 2014 and visited Kepaniwai Park in the Iao Valley, where I took this photo of the iconic Iao Needle. Standing 1200 feet tall, the monument marks the site of a battle in 1790 that helped unite the Hawaiian Islands under King Kamehameha I twenty years later. The park maintains a lovely Nature Centre as well, and the Heritage Gardens pay homage to immigrants who came to Hawaii in the early 1800s from countries such as Japan, Korea, China and Portugal.
