Regardless of the glossy recruiting pamphlets and the sing-song encouragement of the talent scouts and whatever your mum may have told you, it's never easy. In fact, whether it's grad school, writing that novel, climbing to the top of your MMA bracket, or beating the last level of Stereotype Italian Plumber Jumping Game, it's going to get soul-crushingly dark at some point in the journey. Why struggle against such a veil of tears? What good can come from this suffering, this agony for agony's sake? Would it not be easier to open a vein and/or go be nobody? Of course (duh). But then you don't get the fruit. The fruit? You win, and everyone else gets to sit down. In other words: If you quit, they win.
