Ikeda Opposite Butterfly Petname Tag Playing Cards
The Ikeda family crest of Kamogata (Okayama Prefecture): In 1672, when Mitsumasa retired and his eldest son Tsunemasa succeeded him, he gave his younger brother Masatoki 25,000 koku of newly developed land and established a branch domain in Toyonaka (Okayama Prefecture). The family crest is the 'Opposite Butterfly' ("Ikeda Opposite Butterfly"), with the alternate crest being 'Three Gentian'. (from "Family Crests of Daimyo Families" by Kenichi Takahashi) / The 'opposite' refers to the two facing each other. To distinguish it from the front-facing crest, it has become customary to use the character 'opposite'. (from "The Story of Family Crests" by Tsumao Awagasaka)
