Ikeda facing butterfly watch
The Ikeda family crest of Kamogata (Okayama Prefecture): In 1672, when Mitsumasa retired and his eldest son Tsunamasa succeeded him, he gave his younger brother Masatoki 25,000 koku of newly developed land and established a branch domain in Kamogata, Toyonaka. The family crest is 'facing butterfly' ("Ikeda facing butterfly"), and the alternate crest is 'three gentian'. (from "Family Crests of Daimyo Families" by Kenichi Takahashi). 'Facing' refers to two things facing each other. The character 'facing' is used to distinguish it from a directly facing crest. (from "The Story of Family Crests" by Tsumao Awagasaka)
