About This Design
Italian Seamstresses and a Boy Having a Good Chat Tea Towel
This design features a painting by the Italian artist Eugene de Blaas (1843–1931). It depicts a group of women working on some sewing in the garden; they are chatting to a boy who is leaning on the back of a wooden chair. There is some fruit in a wicker bowl on the floor too, perhaps apples. The women look happy and animated as the boy entertains them with his chat. There is also another woman standing beside a nearby brick wall with her arms akimbo. In the background can be seen a pergola with ivy growing over it. The ground is dusty, but the women are wearing elegant dresses, and the boy is wearing a blue shirt and traditional hat, with a bandanna or scarf wrapped around his neck. The original art was painted in 1905.
