James Francis Edward Stuart Postcard

James Francis Edward Stuart Postcard

James Edward Francis Stuart, often known as the "Old Pretender," was a central figure in the political and dynastic conflicts of 18th-century Europe. Born in 1688, he was the son of King James II of England and Ireland, who was deposed during the Glorious Revolution of 1688. This event led to James Edward's claim to the English and Scottish thrones, which was contested by the newly established Protestant monarchy. Throughout his life, he sought to reclaim the throne and was recognised by some Catholic powers as the legitimate king, leading to a series of Jacobite uprisings in Britain and Ireland. James Edward Francis Stuart's most noteable attempt to regain the throne occurred during the Jacobite Rising of 1715, which ultimately failed. Despite his persistent efforts, he lived most of his life in exile, primarily in France and Italy. He married Princess Maria Clementina Sobieska, with whom he had two sons, including Charles Edward Stuart, also known as "Bonnie Prince Charlie," who would lead the Jacobite cause in the famous 1745 uprising. James Edward's role as a symbol of Stuart dynastic legitimacy and his consistent pursuit of the British crown contributed to the enduring Jacobite cause and the romanticised allure of the Stuart pretenders in British history and folklore.

Such a huge range of different frogs available, which made my choices very difficult and now the reason I have a whole draw full of cards and postcards! Much better quality than you can buy in the shops and they are exactly on the subject I love and adore too.
