This is a replica of an 1858 Japanese woodblock print by master Utagawa Yoshitsuya. Oni are a type of yokai monster in Japanese mythology, similar to ogres. Shutendoji was the leader of the oni in his time, and is known as one of the three great evil yokai of Japan. He was ultimately defeated by the samurai Minamoto no Yorimitsu.
