This Neoclassicism genre masterpiece titled, An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump is made by the famous painter, Joseph Wright using oil on canvas in 1768. Joseph Wright of Derby also painted Dovedale by Moonlight, capturing the rural landscape of a narrow valley called Dovedale, 14 miles northeast of Wright's hometown of Derby, at night with a full moon. It hangs in the Allen Memorial Art Museum at Oberlin College. Its companion piece, Dovedale by Sunlight captures the colours of day.
